Combatants chuckle as they move on the back of a transport truck, racing alongside a row of nine lifeless forms and driving facing the descending Sudanese evening sky.

"Observe this extensive effort. Observe this act of ethnic cleansing," one shouts.

The fighter beams as he turns the recording device on his person and his associate militiamen, their Rapid Support Forces insignia clearly shown: "The victims shall all die in this manner."

The combatants are rejoicing over a massacre that aid workers suspect resulted in the deaths of more than thousands of civilians in the African urban center of el-Fasher in recent weeks.

A City Isolated from the World

Having held the city under blockade for nearly 24 months, from the summer the RSF proceeded to reinforce its position and restrict the remaining residents.
