Tributes Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Well beyond 14 days following the shocking loss of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones persist in remembering the duo.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has elapsed that I can finally express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner created an instant bond. "As we began sharing more moments together I understood this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob valued immensely. This is one of the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Fellow Artist
In a different piece, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved being with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's cameo appearance in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese added.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles court official ruled to prevent the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A court order put a restriction on the cases to restrict the public release of "any investigative information, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The coroner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of murder, with a public database noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
After the killings, public individuals offered varying reactions.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making provocative statements that were broadly criticized by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the those speaking out last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan characterized the remarks as "disturbing" and suggested they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan finished by suggesting that an adviser should have stepped in when the decision to speak on the tragedy was made.
